Welcome to the North West School of Radiology (NWSOR)

The site provides you with all the information you will need for Clinical & Interventional Radiology training within the North West of England (NHS).

This site covers details of the clinical training programme & Academy teaching programmes

The North West School of Radiology (NWSOR) was formed in 2017 through the merging of two very successful radiology schemes; Manchester and Mersey.  The school has over 200 trainees and had an intake of 45 trainees this year for Clinical Radiology. We also support the Nuclear Medicine training placements within the NWSOR.

In 2018 NWSOR introduced the NW Radiology Academy with a full time 4 month classroom based training rotation for ST1 trainees. The rotation provides teaching programmes in core radiology knowledge, ultrasound skills and preparation for FRCR1a examinations.

In 2019 NWSOR partnered with Edge Hill University to create the Radiology Academy which is located in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre at the University.  This has been a very exciting and successful development enabling the delivery of a comprehensive full time programme of radiology training using a purpose use iMac facility within the University.

In 2022 the NWSOR joined the North West Imaging Academies Hub and expanded Academy programmes for Postgraduate Drs in Training for all ST year groups, including classroom based, online and simulation teaching programmes. All these programmes focus professional and modern educational development for the future Radiologist workforce within the NHS and retaining talent within the North West of England.
